About the Artist
On January 27, 2009, Felicidad Caparal was abducted by state forces while traveling to care for her sick mother. She was held incommunicado for nine days before being charged with involvement in a 2002 ambush she could not have committed—she was eight months pregnant at the time.
Ate Fe shared, “I haven’t even held a weapon in my life, yet here I am for a crime I could have never committed.” A long-time organizer with the Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA), Ate Fe’s imprisonment reflects the brutal lengths the state goes to suppress advocates of agrarian reform.
