The Philippines holds 812 political prisoners, of which 163 are women—incarcerated for fighting for their political rights and against state repression. Many are farmers and peasants targeted for opposing land grabbing and demanding genuine agrarian reform.

In September, our team at Pinay Collection met 10 political prisoners at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong. Witnessing their strength and resistance was incredibly humbling. During this visit, Marilyn Magpatoc taught us the Visayan word Asdang, meaning "to fight forward," which became the inspiration behind this gift box.

Since May 2024, through GABRIELA’s Free Our Sisters, Free Ourselves campaign, we’ve organized fundraisers and educational events to support the women political prisoners of CIW. As Pinay Collection’s official community partner, we stand in solidarity with GABRIELA’s fight toward the liberation of the political prisoners of CIW, and all political prisoners.

Support their struggle and their art by purchasing the Asdang Gift Box, where 100% of profits go directly to FOSFO and the political prisoners, providing for their essential needs. All products are handmade by the collective, including designs by Alex Pacalda, Marilyn Magpatoc, and Fe Caparal.

What's included in the box:

  • One handwoven bracelet designed by Marilyn Magpatoc. You can choose your preferred word, but color options may vary due to limited materials.
  • One earring designed by Alex Pacalda. Choose between a 'Ganda' (beautiful) earring or a 'Taray' (sassy) earring.
  • A handmade origami card designed by Fe Caparal, chosen in a random color.
  • A set of End Genocide stickers by Mako Micropress.
  • A postcard by Pinay Collection.
  • Nicely packaged in a gift box.
