This shirt features the many faces of Filipina revolutionaries. Some were poets whose words proved just as powerful as any weapon, like Kerima Tariman and Lorena Barros. Some were mothers, like Kerima and Lorena. Some were aspiring filmmakers, like Kal Peralta. Some were thinkers and educators, like Lorena. Some were lovers, like Gregoria de Jesus, Lorena, and Kerima. In different ways and across generations, all of them were warriors.
From holding a weapon to holding a microphone, they are shown carrying the weapons of their own choosing. What ties them together is their willingness to dedicate their lives to the masses and to the struggle for liberation.
Their names are printed here as an invitation to learn about their lives and their work, because their contributions did not end on the battlefield.
The quote on the back comes from the poem Kwento ng Kambing by Kerima Tariman, written in remembrance of the massacre at Hacienda Luisita massacre. You can listen to the poem in its original Tagalog version here.
