Artist Statement

The Pinoys on Parliament 2026 t-shirt design asserts organized Filipino presence in a political space that has long excluded our communities. Bituin is printed boldly as a statement of collective visibility, power, and refusal to be sidelined.

At the center of the design is a large boat, honoring Kabangka and their work in building political education, leadership, and collective power among Filipino youth. The boat symbolizes shared journey, migration, and organized movement, affirming that change is built through collective action rather than individual advancement.

Surrounding it are smaller but intentional elements: the word Balatik (Orion) showing how Filipinos mapped meaning onto the stars, grounding the vastness of the galaxy in daily life, labor, and survival. A Sarimanok representing movement, communication, and continuity across generations; and stars that signal guidance and shared direction.

Together, this shirt affirms that our presence in Parliament is grounded, collective, and political, carried forward by youth who inherit struggle and transform it into action.

Proceeds

One dollar from every piece of merch is donated to AGHAM Philippines, an organization of scientists, engineers, and professionals who place science and technology in service of the Filipino people. AGHAM’s work in disaster response, community education, and people-centered solutions aligns with the spirit of this design: knowledge rooted in the masses, youth-led organizing, and collective care in the face of state neglect and climate crisis.

About Pinoys on Parliament & Kabangka

Founded in 2018, Pinoys on Parliament, also known as POP, is a yearly national leadership conference for young Filipino/a/x-Canadians held in Ottawa, Ontario. POP is organized by Kabangka - a youth-led and youth-centred leadership organization that unites young Filipino/a/x-Canadians to support Filipino/a/x-Canadian representation in a variety of sectors.

• Our designs are heat-pressed onto fabric. To ensure they last a long time, please only wash and tumble dry inside out. If you need to iron, only iron on the backside of the clothing.
• Wash in cold & hang to dry to prevent shrinking and fading.
