A parol is a traditional Filipino Christmas lantern made to represent light and hope.
This is a collective project of the women political prisoners at the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong, Philippines.
Please note that the artists and political prisoners involved in this project designed each parol to be unique. You can choose the main color of your parol; however, the pattern of what you'll receive may vary from what is shown on the website.
To honour their creativity and work, we're only releasing limited edition designs of their art.
A note about the Free all Political Prisoner(s) parols
These Parols read “Free all political prisoner.” The missing “s” is a reminder that language, like grammar, has long been used as a tool of colonial control. Our community partners are not English speakers by privilege; they are the very political prisoners these Parols are calling freedom for. We appreciate your support of their craft!
Proceeds
GABRIELA’s Free Our Sisters, Free Ourselves (FOSFO) campaign works to free women political prisoners in the Philippines. As Pinay Collection’s official community partner, we fully support their advocacy and the political prisoners of CIW through ongoing educational and fundraising efforts.
50% of the profits from these parols will go to FOSFO and the political prisoners of CIW, on top of the wages already paid for their artistry - helping meet their essential needs within the correctional institute.
