Beyond the Word
Bruha came from the spanish word Bruja, meaning witch. It is a term used to describe Pina/xys for our "unruly", "displeasing'' and "unconventional" appearance. On the other hand, maganda means beautiful.
This design signifies the unrealistic western beauty standards imposed upon us growing up. It is a reminder that embracing ourselves for our coarse hair, soft nose and glowing brown skin, is in itself an act of resistance against the systems and figures that made us feel any less than our beautiful selves.
